My Essie Favourites this Month

Essie remains my number one brand for nail varnish. Whilst I still continue to add to my ever growing collection, I thought I’d whittle it down to the three shades I can’t get enough of recently. I’ve just been constantly rotating these three, as they’re so wearable and match anything and everything…including my very jazzy pyjamas, because that’s all I’ve been in!

Starting off with Essie’s Island Hopping, it’s this perfect dusty plum shade, that is an absolute must-have for rocking in sunny weather!

Essie’s Merino Cool has become my go-to to wear to work. It’s a dark smokey taupe colour, and for me, it just oozes sophistication! Take your standard “shirt and skirt” look, and this shade can just instantly add the right edge to your outfit.

Last but not least, I’ve recently rediscovered my love for Essie’s Sole Mate. As a rich burgundy colour, most would reserve this for the autumn/winter season, but when something is this wearable, it would be a shame not to use it to vamp up any look! If you need a dark shade in your collection, this is the one.

What are some of your Essie favourites?

Product Review | L’Occitane Immortelle Oil Make-up Remover

Right, we’ve all been there. Coming out of the bathroom with tears in your eyes, skin bright red, raw and irritated. There’s only one reason for it – scrubbing hard to remove that makeup that just will not budge.

I got the L’Occitane Immortelle Oil makeup remover for Christmas after it was high on my wish list, and it has been my absolute saving grace. My main two everyday makeup items are eyeliner and mascara, and we all know that it can be an absolute pain to remove sometimes.
All I need though is one little pump from this, and it all comes off so easily!

It is so gentle on the skin, and feels really silky to apply. I love that I can just rub it in with my hands and wash it off, rather than having to apply it on a cotton pad. It makes the whole process of removing makeup a whole load more relaxing, rather than a daunting chore.

I guess the only downside would be the price. I’m not usually one to really splurge on my makeup removers, I’ve previously relied on something from Boots, or the Body Shop which is a bit more budget friendly.
This costs £22 for a 200ml bottle, but although the price sounds a little more than what you may usually buy from the drugstore, a little really goes a long way, and with such effective results.

Overall, it is definitely something I can see myself buying again. It’s made my skin feel so much less irritated, and dare I say, I actually look forward to taking my makeup off at the end of the day.

Have you tried the Immortelle Oil Make-up Remover? What were your thoughts?

There’ll be more from me soon…

5 Ways to Relax After a Long Week

So it’s the first week of January, and already I find myself feeling worn out and daydreaming about the weekend! If you’re like me, and have had a tough first week at work, or you’re stressed out with university and exams, or even if you just feel like chilling out this weekend (because who doesn’t love a chill day!?) – then I’ve got a few things that you could do to ease that heavy weight off your shoulders!

Film fest and a tonne of snacks:

If you know me, then you’ll know that I love to watch films. Because with films comes snacks, and I love a snack or two…or three, or four. I spend most of my weekends watching film after film, and diving into my snack cupboard (yes, I have a cupboard just for snacks) mulling over whether today’s the day for the unboxing of the fancy chocolates, or how many packets of popcorn should I pop.

So grab a few cushions, fluffy blankets, pop on your comfiest pyjamas and cosiest socks – and veg out on the sofa for a couple of hours!

Binge on a TV Series:

If films aren’t your thing and you prefer to watch something shorter like an episode, then why not start up on a new TV drama? I’ve seen quite a few (and re-watched a lot), and sometimes escaping into the world of Beverley Hills, or the Upper East Side is just what you need! Here are a few of my favourites that I’d highly recommend!

One Tree Hill – 9 seasons, 187 episodes
Breaking Bad – 5 seasons, 62 episodes
90210 – 5 seasons, 114 episodes
Gossip Girl – 6 seasons, 121 episodes
Pretty Little Liars – 7 seasons, 150 episodes

Colouring:

Do you have quite a busy lifestyle and find that you don’t have much time to do anything? Colouring books are perfect for using some of that stress and tension towards something creative. What I love about these books is that you don’t have to be this professional artist to do them. I personally used to love drawing when I was younger but I didn’t have a creative bone in my body. I was good at drawing from observation but when it came to things as simple as doodling – I sucked.
For these, all you need is some colouring pencils, and then just let the pencils flow! I tend to just randomly pick a colour for random sections and 9 times out of 10, they somehow just work! It’s oddly very relaxing.

Give yourself a mini spa treatment:

Remember those chick flick films, where all the girls get together and go to this amazing spa to relax, and that always involved lounging on a bench with a mud mask on and eating the cucumber on their eyes? Well, sadly I don’t have the time, money, or even friends *plays violin*, so I’ve brought the spa to me!
Here are my steps to pamper heaven:
  1. Hop into a nice hot shower, or relaxing bath if you have more time.
  2. Scrub away all the stress with your favourite exfoliator – I am loving The Body Shop’s Moringa Exfoliating Cream Body Scrub!
  3. Remember to rub some of that love back into your skin with a good body cream – I recommend Soap & Glory’s The Righteous Butter 100%.
  4. Wash away the long day with a fresh facial cleanser – I’m using my favourite one at the moment, The Body Shop’s Seaweed Deep Cleansing Gel Wash.
  5. Apply a more than generous amount of your favourite clay mask – You HAVE to try The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Skin Clearing Clay Mask. My skin has never felt better!
  6. Sit back and RELAX.

Curl up with a book:

Nothing says relax like cosy-ing up with a cup of tea, and a good book in your lap. I just love to end my day with the calming smells of my candles, tea or hot chocolate in hand, and immersing myself in a fictional world. I am loving Sophie Kinsella books at the moment! They’re girly, hilarious and light – so all around perfect!

What do you like to do to relax? I’d love to hear about it, so please do comment and tell me!

My Favourites of 2016 | Beauty, Fashion & More!

Here we are, saying goodbye to another year.
I’m going to say it.
The thing that I’m sure some of you have said, or your parents, your aunts, uncles, grandparents, friends – someone will have said it.

2016 went so quickly!!!

To be honest, I do say that every year but this year feels like it’s been the most life changing year of my life to date. So it seemed only natural to write up a few posts focusing on my favourites, highlights and memories of 2016 – starting with the products and things I’ve loved this year!

Beauty:

Urban Decay’s Naked 2 Basics Palette:

Okay so I am not in any way a makeup expert, but in particular I really struggle with applying eyeshadow! I seriously applaud and bow down to everyone that can do it because…you guys have some serious skills. It doesn’t stop me from being tempted by all the pretty palettes though!
When James (my boyfriend) surprised me with the Naked 2 Basics palette, I was over the moon! I personally feel like it’s the perfect palette for me at the moment. It comes with six neutral matte shades, which are so pigmented and can create a look for any occasion! I find it so much easier to practise different looks with these shades, and hopefully one day *fingers crossed* my eyeshadow won’t just look like a line of colour.

Benefit’s Dandelion Blush:
I’m pretty sure I’ve been wearing this for nearly the whole of 2016, and I am still not sick of it! It adds the perfect touch of colour to a simple makeup look, or really highlights a bold, “time-to-party” look.
Charlotte Tilbury’s Lipstick in Amazing Grace:

I remember walking in to the Bentalls Centre in Kingston and seeing this new big sparkly stand next to the MAC section, and thinking “Right, I’ve never heard of this brand before but everything is in rose gold, so I have to have it“. Now I’m not much of a wearer of pink lipstick as I’ve always loved a dark lip, but this shade Amazing Grace was a huge game changer for me. It’s a beautiful, rosy pink that just adds the perfect pop of colour to any look. I just know that my 2017 is going to involve a lot more CT purchases…

MAC Lipstick in D For Danger:

It’s no secret that I haven’t loved splurging on a MAC lipstick every now and then, it’s a habit! But I just saw hearts when I came across this sexy, seductive shade. D for Danger is another one of my recent purchases in the matte formula, and it has forced me to tuck the Russian Red away for a while!  If you’re looking for a dark pinky red – this is the shade for you!
Skincare:

The Body Shop’s Seaweed Facial Wash & Exfoliator:

My yearly skincare favourites would never be complete without some Body Shop products! I’ve really been appreciating them a lot more recently, and how amazing is it that they do free delivery for orders over £10!? I thought I’d try out their seaweed range and I’ve already bought more for the new year! My skin feels so fresh and I adore the exfoliator. I use it about 3 times a week or more, and I feel like it really gets out all the impurities from my face.
The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Moisturiser:

I have combination skin, so winter is quite difficult for me in terms of finding the right moisturiser. My face can get very dry, but I can’t use too much of a creamy formula, or the areas around my nose becomes really oily. This Vitamin E Moisturiser is my saviour. It’s insanely moisturising but it’s not heavy, and doesn’t leave your face feeling greasy for a while. It’s really light, but you don’t need a lot for it to do it’s job! I would 100% recommend this to anyone because it’s suitable for all skin types!
Fashion:

Zara:

When I received the offer for my job, it was only then that I’d realised that I had zilch to wear. Cue Zara! I’ve purchased some amazing shirts from there over the past couple of months, so if you’re looking for a smart, yet trendy look for any interviews etc. Zara is the place to go!
Aldo:

For some reason, I’d never really gone into Aldo before to shop for shoes, more for bags. But when I saw these babies, I just had to have them! The dark pink heels are about 3 inches, and I was worried about how long I would be able to wear them in the day, but they’re so surprisingly comfortable!
I’d been searching high and low for the perfect pair of brown boots, so I was overjoyed when I found these! They’re perfect for adding that classic style to any outfit, and I’ve been wearing them non-stop!

Ted Baker Purse:
How could I write my fashion favourites without including my baby? This beauty is my favourite statement purse at the moment. I love how simple it is, but the bold colour really adds something special and daring to any outfit. Who needs a handbag when you’ve got this, eh?
Bits & Bobs:

Pretty Little Liars:

Got a secret, can you keep it? I LOVE PRETTY LITTLE LIARS! I am so happy that I got James into it because I don’t think I would’ve been able to survive watching it on my own – I’m such a chicken! If you watch it…who’s excited for April!? (At least, I think that’s when the final episodes get released)
And for those of you who have no idea what I’m on about, I would highly recommend that you devote some of your time to watching it because it is incredible! It’s got a bit of everything – drama, mystery, and those good ol’ chick flick romances.
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins:

After joining the hype and reading Gone Girl, I didn’t think I would find another book for a while that would have my fingers itching to “turn the page over already!”, but The Girl on the Train was just unbelievable in my opinion. If you’ve already watched the film, but haven’t read the book – the film does not do the book justice at all! It’s intense, clever, and who doesn’t love a book that will always keep you guessing?
What are your favourites of 2016? Leave them in the comments below – they could be in my favourites of 2017!
I hope you enjoyed this post and Happy New Year everyone!

The Autumn Tag

At the moment, it hasn’t felt like Autumn has come yet, so I am still waiting for the crisp breezes and the beautiful changes of colours in the leaves. In the meantime, to get me more into the Autumn mood, I was tagged by the lovely Hayley to do “The Autumn Tag” and what better time is there to do it than in Autumn?

Ok we’re talking coffees – what’s your favourite seasonal drink from Starbucks/Costa/Cafe Nero etc?

I’m not much of an experimenter of drinks at all, considering I hate the taste of coffee (apologies to all the coffee lovers out there), so I’m pretty boring but my favourite seasonal all year round drink would be the “Classic Hot Chocolate” from Starbucks. To be honest, the only reason why I chose Starbucks is because of their amazing whipped cream..mmm!

Accessories – what do you opt for, scarf, boots, gloves?

Boots, always. For me, there’s nothing that can perfect an outfit more than a pair of chunky boots.

Music – what’s your favourite music to listen to during Autumn?

Like Hayley, Gabrielle Aplin is top of my playlist. Her voice is just so calming, and I swear I can picture people running through autumn leaves when she sings…
And then of course Ed Sheeran, because…well because it’s Ed and he’s amazing.

Perfume – what’s your favourite scent for this time of year?

“Chance Eau Tendre” by Chanel.

Candles – what scents will you be burning this season?

I absolutely love “Autumn Fruit” by Yankee Candle. I know Yankee Candles are absolutely raved about everywhere, but there is literally just a scent for every occasion, and they’re of the most incredible quality.

What do you love most about Autumn?

The colours. Burgundy, red, ochre yellow, gosh I love them all.

Favourite make up look?

I wouldn’t say I have a particular look, but my favourite lipstick to rock out is my MAC lipstick in “Diva”, which is a matte finish.

What are you looking forward to most in Autumn?

Snuggles by the fire, with huge blankets and mahoosive mugs of hot chocolate.

Oh wait, I don’t have a fireplace. So just everything else.

I tag the lovely Georgia, ZoëAmyAimee, and Sarah to do “The Autumn Tag”!
And also any of my lovely readers, and if you do do it, comment below so I can read them!

October Wishlist

I’ve never written a wish list before, so I have no idea if you’re meant to put them at the beginning of the month or the end? But here are a few things I’ve been dreaming of for the longest time, so this October I’m going to set out and get them, or at least ones similar!

Top left to right:

1) Black Patent Metal Snaffle Trim Loafers – New Look (£19.99)

I really want a pair of loafers, to wear with my smart clothes when I’m heading to uni. They’re so simple, yet so classy, especially with the metal plate detail.

Essie is probably my favourite nail varnish brand, and I have fallen in love with their Autumn collection! The one that really stood out for me was this beautiful, dark blue shade, but now looking at the whole of the collection..I want them all.

3) Glasses print bedding set – Primark (£12)

For my second year of uni, I’ve moved out of my halls and into a new house with a double bed! So I’ve been frantically shopping for the perfect bedding, and I came across this super cute set on the Primark website! I find it so adorable, I just have to have it, then I can wear glasses whist lying in my glasses bedsheets and then…glasses overload.

Bottom left to right:

4) Floppy Wool Fedora Hat – Topshop (£35)

I just keep having images of me in a long black trench coat, jet black long hair, red lipstick, and a big floppy wool fedora hat. I need one.

5) High-Waist Denim Mini Skirt – American Apparel (£48)

Lastly, I don’t think I’ve worn a proper denim skirt since I was a pre-teen. I’ve seen quite a few people sporting this skirt, and it’s just tempted me to get one for myself!

What’s on your wish list this October? Do you have any recommendations for me?
